As a visual designer, I had the opportunity to contribute to the development of Immortal Gates of Pyre, a real-time strategy game by Sunspear Games. My role focused on crafting a seamless and immersive UI/UX experience that enhances the strategic depth and accessibility of the game.
The main menu serves as the player's first interaction with the game, and it was crucial to create a design that was both visually compelling and easy to navigate. I began by analyzing the target audience and the thematic elements of Immortal Gates of Pyre. The goal was to reflect the game's rich lore and intense strategic gameplay while ensuring quick access to essential features like multiplayer, campaign modes, and settings.
The design process involved multiple iterations of wireframes and mockups, which were tested for usability and visual impact. I prioritized clarity in the layout, using a hierarchical structure that guides players effortlessly through the menu options. The final design incorporates dynamic elements, such as animated backgrounds and interactive icons, to enhance engagement while maintaining an intuitive user experience.
The in-game HUD is a critical component in a real-time strategy game, where players need to make split-second decisions. My approach focused on creating a HUD that delivers essential information without overwhelming the player. The challenge was to balance functionality with aesthetics, ensuring that the HUD complements the game's visual style without detracting from the gameplay.
I designed the HUD to be modular, allowing players to customize the display based on their preferences. Key elements like resource management, unit control, and mini-maps were positioned strategically to minimize screen clutter while maximizing accessibility. The use of color coding, iconography, and responsive animations further aids in quick decision-making, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
