EMEA Championship

Riot sets a high bar for presentation, and the EMEA Championship meant working to it. The brief spanned the championship's digital home, including an interactive map of the region where fans could pick a point and read about the leagues and stories rooted there. Plenty of moving parts, three teams, and a standard that left little room to fudge.

01The Challenge

Riot works to a very specific bar for presentation, so the creative had to clear it. But the bigger challenge was operational: keeping our agency team, our programmers, and Riot’s EU team aligned long enough for the work to ship as intended. Three groups with different vocabularies, different timelines, and different definitions of “done.”

02My Role

I handled creative direction and worked hands-on across UI/UX and design, including the interactive regional map, where we let fans choose a point and read about the EMEA leagues and stories tied to it. A lot of my time, though, went to the part in the middle: acting as the point of contact between groups, turning Riot's expectations into briefs the team could execute and turning engineering realities into options Riot could sign off on.

03The Solution

I kept ambition and feasibility in constant conversation. A strong design the engineers can't build, or one the client rejects in week three, helps no one. When an engineering constraint showed up, I treated it as a design input rather than an obstacle. When feedback came in from Riot, I worked it back into the system without breaking the overall direction.

Creative direction here was as much diplomacy as taste. Keeping agency, developers, and Riot's internal team aligned was the actual deliverable.

04The Result

The work met the Riot standard, which is among the highest in the field, and it shipped without the seams showing. On a project like this, hidden seams are usually the clearest sign that the coordination underneath held.
